Levy of Taxes on Vehicles and Animals for the Year 2026

The public is hereby informed that the following proposal was approved by the Balangoda Pradeshiya Sabha under Resolution No. 06.01 at the General Council Meeting held on 11th September 2025.

It is further notified that, in accordance with the provisions of Sections 147 and 148 of the Pradeshiya Sabha Act No. 15 of 1987, the relevant taxes for the year 2026 must be paid to the Pradeshiya Sabha office on or before 31st March 2026.

Proposal

Under the provisions of Sections 147 and 148 of the Pradeshiya Sabha Act No. 15 of 1987, the Balangoda Pradeshiya Sabha proposes to impose and levy taxes on vehicles and animals for the year 2026 in accordance with the rates specified in the Schedule below. These taxes shall be paid to the Pradeshiya Sabha office on or before 31st March 2026.

Schedule

Exemptions:

Children's vehicles with wheels not exceeding 26 inches in diameter, wheelbarrows, handcarts used solely within private premises for commercial purposes, and handcarts not used for commercial purposes are exempt from this tax.

Definition:

For the purpose of this Schedule, the term "commercial purpose" includes the carrying or transportation of any goods, materials, articles, or written or printed matter for sale or for use in any trade, business, or industry.
